Lei, a Chinese painter, welcomes her artistic agent at her messy studio. He blames her for not being prolific, and warns her that Albert Asbath, her dead master’s patron, is coming soon. On her way back to work, she visits an old tattooer friend: she wants him to pound ink again inside the tattoo of a bud. She had it engraved on the underinside of the arm when she was learning to paint with her master. The tattooer tries to get closer to her, but she does not respond to his advances.
